CRTITERIA STUDENT AMOUNT

Esther Scharf

Scholarship

Awarded to student studying to become a teacher and selected based on academic achievement and financial need.  Established by Ms. Scharf upon her retirement after 55 years of teaching. Nicole Padro   $1000.00
       

Donald Reuss

Scholarship

Awarded to student planning to enter the field of science, especially research related to genetics. Awarded in honor of Don Reuss, president of the BSCTA for 20 years Kristie Koos   $500.00

John Lane

Scholarship

In memory of John Lane, a teacher who was shot and killed by a student in the halls of the Bay Shore High School in 1966.  Awarded to a student planning to attend a 4-year college with a "B" average or better. Beverly Taracena  $1,000.00
       

Jean Flynn

Scholarship

In memory of math teacher Jean Flynn.  Awarded to a student planning to attend a post secondary school, 2-year or 4-year college.  Award based on financial need of student entering business, vocational, or trade school. Stephanie Angel  $1,000.00
       

Jerry Berka

Scholarship

Awarded in honor of Jerry Berka, who has served on the Board of Education for 36 years, based on financial need. Kate Cangelosi    $500.00
       

Justin McCarthy

Scholarship

Established and funded by Betty McCarthy, retired elementary school teacher in honor of her son, Justin McCarthy, who tragically lost his life on September 11. 2001. Colin Madigan  $1,000.00
       

David Littlefair

Scholarship

Established in 2002 by Marie Littlefair, a retired social studies teacher, in memory of her husband, David.  Awarded to a student planning to attend a two or four year college with a major in architecture, architectural drawing, technical drawing or engineering. Konrad Dlugowski  $2,000.00
       

Dollars for Scholars

Scholarship
