Friend of Education Dinner
Darlene Darch - President
Each year NYSUT hosts a "Friend of Education" dinner at
the Woodbury Country Club. The purpose of the evening is to honor a "Friend of
Education," chosen by the local’s Board of Directors. This dinner is also an
opportunity to honor teachers who have served in the union for 10 years or
more.
This year, the BSCTA Board of Directors voted to honor
Dr. Steven Maloney, Assistant to the Superintendent of Bay Shore Schools as our
honoree. Joining Steve at the dinner were several members of our BSCTA
Executive Board; Darlene Darch, Jeff Lane, Bill Burns, Gale Falconer, Nancy
Kavanagh, Michelle Stowers and Mike Krieger.
The room was filled with over 200 attendees from locals
across Long Island, but only 21 locals honored a "Friend". Many local
presidents confided in me that they have "no friends" outside their union. It
is occasions such as this that remind me how fortunate we are to have such a
positive working relationship with our administration. Steve sincerely deserves
this recognition and I am glad we had the chance to show our appreciation to him
for his contributions to the District and for the support he continually shows
all of us.
