Tech Tip - End of Year Checklist

With summer vacation right around the corner, this is a good time to "clean up" your computer in order to preserve your files. Each summer the computers in the district are "cleaned out" in order to keep them in optimum running condition for the following school year.  Here are a few things to do before leaving for the summer.

PC Checklist:

1-     Any files on the desktop, on the C: drive, or in My Documents folder will be removed when the computers are cleaned.  The safest place to put all files is in your TUSER folder.  Anything in the TUSER is saved on the building server year after year.  If you want to take a copy of your files home with you for the summer, you can save a copy to a floppy disk or burn a CD.

To save files to a TUSER:

a) Log into the computer under YOUR NAME AND PASSWORD.

b) Open file you want to save.

c) Go to FILE.

d) Click "Save As" - Make sure the window indicates you are saving to TUSER.  If not, click the arrow and select the TUSER.

e) Name your document.

f) Click SAVE.

2-     Store CDs, floppy disks, and software in a cool place.  The heat of summer can damage synthetic materials.

3-     Clean the computer, the keyboard, and the monitor with a cloth or a wipe.

Email Checklist:

This is also a good time to delete old emails. Junk mail and old messages just take up space on the email server.

·        Log into your Bay Shore Email and delete any old messages that you no longer want.

·        Unsubscribe to newsletters that you no longer read.

Have a restful summer.
